Moving, Malawi, and Birthdays!

Monday, August 15, 2011

Wow, it has been a very long time (I know you've heard me say that before).

To quickly recap the last little while - after my birthday I started working and was really focused on doing that for the last weeks. Currently working on packing up to move and dealing with some family-related scares. However, things are starting to calm down and this new chapter in my life will be starting VERY soon. As in...2.5 weeks!

I have found all 5 sponsors for the children that I will be visiting in Malawi, which makes me incredibly happy. I am so excited to prepare for this trip. I have met a lovely couple (via the internet world and the amazingness that is...skype!) that will be coming on the trip as well. Lovely people and they went to Zambia with World Vision in May of last year. To read about their trip and about our upcoming trip - visit Christy's blog ( zchristy.wordpress.com/ ) and Colin's blog ( http://zacolin.wordpress.com ).

Moving day is quickly approaching and I have been packing like a crazy person. I am trying to pack in an organized fashion (debatable), as well as prepare things that are to be donated, and leave my room here in an orderly fashion. I have no further comments on the following goals. I am really excited to move and start a new chapter of my life. I have been looking forward to this day for a very long time. I start school next month, as well as a new evening job. I will of course be taking Basie with me to keep me company (everybody needs a dog and that's just the way it is), but I cry every time I think about leaving my other two babies here. That will take an incredible amount of getting used to.

I am spending the rest of my time looking at pictures of my gorgeous little great niece, Charlotte who was born in June. This little girl is so loved and is very lucky to have amazing parents. Babies are squishable and that is just the way it is (and yes I know I just made up a word). I am so exited to watch her grow up... but I really want her to just stay small for the next ten years or so.

As for today, it is my Dad's 86th birthday! I am celebrating as our friends and family are as well. One of my oldest, nearest, and dearest friends Scott, did a very special gesture for Dad's birthday:

"In honour of Oscar Peterson's birthday today, I am donating to one of his favourite charities. Please click the link below and do the same."  ( http://www.worldvision.ca/give-a-gift/Pages/DroughtintheHornofAfrica.aspx?mc=3967643 )

It is an amazing thing to know that you can make a difference and make a small donation to help those who desperately need our attention right now. I'd also like to point out that the Government is matching donations until September 16th!! So please donate :)

Happy Birthday Dad - we all love you!!
